Rita Smith DNP, RN, NEA-BC

Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Rita Smith was appointed Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer in 2004. Ms. Smith holds the prestigious position of being ex-officio voting member of Liberty Health Board of Trustees. Prior to becoming the Chief Nursing Officer, Ms. Smith served for three years as the Vice President of Patient Care Services.

Ms. Smith obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Kean College in 1986. She obtained a Masters of Public Administration in Health Care Policy from New York University. She received a Doctor of Nurse Practice in 2008 from the University of Dentistry and Medicine of New Jersey.

Ms. Smith’s professional memberships include: American College of Health Care Executives and Sigma Theta Tau. She serves as a member of the Advocacy Committee for the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey (ONENJ). She holds membership in the American Nurses Association, the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses and is a member of the Nurse Executive Constituency Group for New Jersey State Nurses Association. Ms. Smith was one of the original organizers of the New Jersey Council of Magnet Organizations (NJCOMO) and serves as Executive Advisor on the Structural Empowerment subcouncil.
